Downgraded features vs older models
Bought the BVN650M1 to replace a similar 6 year old unit. It was just installed so I can't comment on the performance yet, but there are a number of downgrades from my former unit:
Battery is not user replaceable. This isn't a big issue because the cost of the batteries are close to the cost of a new unit (why?). This is the reason I didn't replace it in the former unit...

Best battery for the money
I just replace the battery Back UPS 650VA that was 10 years old. The new battery is working as it should. I always use APC with no problems.

THE BATTERY IS NOT REPLACEABLE IN MODEL BVN650M1
The APC website shows that a replacement battery is available. That is not true. This is a sealed unit. If there is a battery problem within the warranty period, you would have to get APC authorization and pay for shipping the original unit back. APC may send you a refurbished unit, not a new unit. Do not buy this model.

DOES NOT have a USB-B Port for auto shutdown!
The pictures show a USB port and a cable connected to a computer so you can use the Powerchute software. These no long have a port or any other way to connect them to your PC! If you want your computer to automatically safely shut down or hibernate while unattended you are SOL if you buy this!

SO FAR SO GOOD
It's running under a relatively light load and handling it ok. We've had no power outage yet, and I haven't unplugged it for a test, so I don’t know the ups part works. I expect it does because I have two other older ones that do.

Could be better... finicky and annoying
1. Has no usb to connect to computer to give you more info. Didn't know that... assumed that was a standard feature. 2. Overloaded with laser printer plugged in, but resolved by moving that to surge only outlets. One overload resulted in all power getting shut including everything plugged in. Works but an issue in setup
Have used earlier versions over the years. The new "simplified" connection method was harder than the old. Had to straighten pins bent in removal to connect battery.
