How is Flyer Paper Different Than Printer Paper?
Flyer or brochure paper is a special type of paper that is meant to make a statement. It’s generally thicker than standard printer paper, which makes it ideal for printing on both sides without the fear of ink bleeding through. Additionally, flyer paper is also slightly more durable than printer paper, which is ideal for when you’re handing them to others.
Standard copy paper has a weight of 20 pounds, or about 75 grams per square meter (gsm). Paper designed for brochures uses heavier stock (higher grammage) to add heft and increase opacity. Most of these products have a weight of 48 to 52 pounds, or about 180 to 190 gsm.
What Paper Weight and Finish Should I Use for Flyers and Brochures?
If you need to print flyers or brochures, it’s important to think about the weight and the finish you want to display your message on. Heavier stock, in the 48-52 pound range, is ideal for items such as trade show materials or menus that are subject to more wear and tear, so we recommend opting for this weight if you’re planning on using your brochures for these purposes. For printing flyers that you intend to hand out to a lot of people, you can get away with printing on a weight that’s closer to 20-30 pounds.
In terms of the paper’s finish, matte finishes improve the legibility of printed text, while glossy paper enhances colors and brightness in photos or color graphics. Prescored, trifold paper ensures folds are crisp and straight, and select products have perforated tear-off cards for promotions or discounts. Some pamphlet paper brands offer free templates that work with popular word processing applications, making it simple to design and print attractive flyers, handouts, or brochures.
What Sheet Size is Flyer or Brochure Paper Available In?
Brochure paper generally comes in 8.5 x 11 inch letter or 11 x 17 inch tabloid sheets. These sizes are perfect for filling standard binders or folders with letter-sized pages, or folding them into three sections to stuff envelopes or create trifold brochures for lobbies or waiting rooms. Tabloid pages offer plenty of print area for hanging displays or fold them in half to make letter-sized bifold handouts.
